Crispy Tofu Bites

A breaded, baked, crunchy snack that, after a short marinade, can go from oven to plate in 45 minutes.

Ingredients

Crispy Tofu Bites

  • 1 block tofu, extra firm, pressed
  • Mustard or hot sauce of choice for serving (optional)

Marinade

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tbsp tamari, low-sodium
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 1/2 tsp maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 tsp nutritional yeast
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp basil or oregano, dry

Breading

  • 1/3 cup flour, brown rice
  • 1 tbsp arrowroot or cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp basil or oregano, dry

Instructions

  1. Press tofu and set aside.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together all marinade ingredients.
  3. Slice tofu into strips or chunks then place inside bowl. Marinate in the refrigerator for 1-4 hours.
  4. Preheat oven to 425°F and line baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Mix flour and arrowroot/cornstarch in a bowl. Add garlic powder, onion powder and oregano to season flour mixture.
  6. Remove tofu from marinade. Transfer to flour mixture and coat all sides of each tofu strip. Tap to remove excess flour and place breaded tofu pieces on baking sheet.
  7. Bake 45 minutes, flipping halfway. Remove from oven and serve.
